Is Amazon the Devil?
I work part time at a small health food store. There’s a Whole Foods being built 2 miles down the road from us. We’ll be out of business in the next couple of years.
Stories like this are common. Most things are cheaper and more convenient to buy on Amazon, so it makes sense that a lot of smaller shops can’t compete with this monster.
What you normally don’t read about in the news is that you can use Amazon to your benefit and make thousands and thousands of dollars a month.
How I make money on Amazon
One of main sources of income is flipping used books on Amazon. Used books can be profitable:
But flipping used books has some upfront costs. You need a bluetooth scanner. Mine was almost $200:
A ProSeller Account on Amazon is $39.99 a month. I pay $35 a month for my scanning software, $34 a month for a listing program, and $15 a month for repricing program. These costs add up.
Selling physical items on Amazon can be profitable, but as you can see, there are some upfront costs.
Thankfully, there are other Amazon programs that are free to use, and completely digital, so you don’t need to deal with physical inventory.
Amazon Merch is program where you upload t-shirt designs to Amazon, and if people buy your shirt then you get a commission.
The best thing is that Amazon prints the shirt, ships it to the customer, and deals with questions and returns.
I’ve been playing around on this program for about a year, and finally made my first sale:
The commissions may seem small, but remember the only work you’re doing is creating (or buying) the designs and then uploading them. Amazon takes care of everything else, and you get a commission every-time your design sells.
Even while you’re sleeping you can make money, and that’s the American Dream.
It took me a long time to make a sale, but don’t let my lack of success dissuade you. This program is only expanding- it used to only be t-shirts, but now you can upload designs for long sleeves, sweatshirts and hoodies, t shirts, and even pop-sockets:
Recently, I’ve been having more financial success with another free Amazon program.
You’ve probably heard of the Amazon Kindle.
It was one of the first libraries designed for e-books. I’ve only read a few Kindle books, but have written over 20, and have made over $100 in the last month:
The past couple months I’ve been writing and publishing short erotica stories on Kindle. All of my stories have been between 4500 and 6500 words.
I price all my ebooks at $2.99, so when one sells I get to keep 70%, which is about $2.10.
Like Amazon Merch, it’s free to make a Kindle Direct Publishing Account, and it’s free to upload and sell books.
Ebooks can be a grind to write, but if you can write 1 to 2 a week for a couple months then you’ll quickly get over $100 in commissions.
I use photoshop to design my Kindle covers, and also design my merch t-shirts.
Why you should make amazon work for you
Amazon might be taking over small businesses, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use their site to your profit.
People trust Amazon, and it’s an established company. It’s also the biggest e-commerce website in the world.
By using Amazon Merch or Kindle, your products are visible to millions of potential buyers. And once you upload an ebook or a t-shirt the design it’s there, and you’ll continue to get royalties if it sells.
I often see popular erotica stories that were published back in 2013. 6 years later, the author is still making more than $2 per sale.
And the most important thing, it’s free to use Amazon Merch and Kindle. The fees may seem high. But you have to keep in mind that it’s free to release your product (t shirt or ebook), and Amazon takes care of the payments, the shipping, and the returns.
You may not be able to make a full-time income (right away), but you don’t need to look far to find people who make thousands of dollars of profit each month with these programs.
